Top Tip number 8

Stability Zones are our constants and anchors in a sea of uncertainty, doubt and change.  Take some time to map out what your stability zones are and make sure you are looking after them and keeping a balance between them.




Draw a 5-pointed star on a large sheet of paper.

Label each point:

  • People
  • Places
  • Things
  • Beliefs/Ideas
  • Groups

Now write or draw in each triangle the items that are your zones. For example:
Things – many people twiddle with their ring when anxious or lacking confidence, sometimes without realising it. Others keep a photo of family in their wallet or phone and look at it regularly throughout the day. If this is you, write ‘ring’ or ‘wallet’ under ‘things’.
People are certain individuals who will be there for you – an old friend you only see once in a blue moon, but you can pick up where you left off.
Places are towns, buildings, scenes, a special corner of the house (‘my chair’) and so on.
Beliefs and ideas could be faith, environment, politics, or values – things bigger than yourself that help guide your life and behaviour.
Groups are informal or formal organisations and clubs where you belong or have membership or support.

Once finished, look over it a few times so you know you can access support to help you. If there are any empty spangles, look around you and think of what you could do to add something in there.
